If you want fast access to a handgun in your vehicle, the StopBox Co-Pilot is worth checking out.

Leaving unsecured handguns in vehicles is a great way to get them stolen. If you ever find yourself needing to leave your carry gun in your car, or just want a way to keep a pistol within easy reach yet secured while driving, then the new StopBox Co-Pilot may interest you.

The Co-Pilot ships with a universal seat mount that requires no drilling, and it can be attached to either the driver or passenger side. Between the mount, the high-strength polycarbonate-ABS construction, and the included rubber-coated steel security cable, breaking inside or snatching the Co-Pilot box altogether shouldn’t be an easy task. That said, a dedicated individual with enough time or tools could still definitely gain access if they wanted to, so it probably shouldn’t be used to store a gun unattended for long periods of time.

When it comes to an authorized person accessing the stowed handgun, the Co-Pilot features two methods to do so, and neither requires batteries. For the fastest access, it uses what StopBox calls a mechanical hand-gesture lock. Five buttons on the front of the box can be programmed to your “code” of choice, and pressing a combination of those buttons together will open it. It also has a simple key lock, and two keys are included with each Co-Pilot. Once the box is open, the stored handgun is presented grip-up so it can be easily grabbed for a speedy draw.

Dylan Ervin, Founder and CEO of StopBox, said this about the Co-Pilot:

Co-Pilot started with a problem I experienced firsthand. I wanted a better way to keep my handgun secure, accessible, and in a dedicated place in my vehicle. Rather than settle for what was available, we decided to build something entirely new. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve created.

The StopBox Co-Pilot has an MSRP of $349 and it will be available later this month.
