For some college football programs, getting students to stay in their seats until the final whistle is no problem. In fact, in some cases it might even be harder to get them to leave.

However, for other schools, especially those struggling on the field, the students may need some convincing to hang around until the game goes final.

Unfortunately, the Maryland Terrapins fall into the latter camp, and they’re going to some wild lengths to keep students from going home and studying… or more likely, getting blasted in the parking lot.

The Terps are 2-5 on the year, 0-4 in Big Ten play, and just fired head coach Mike Locksley. That’s usually a recipe for making it hard to keep students in the stadium.

No one wants to stand there and watch their team lose when the Tri-Delts are dishing out free Jell-O shots down the street.

So, with the Illinois Illini coming to town on Halloween, they decided to raffle off free spring tuition to one lucky student… who stays in the stadium through the end of the game.

That’s awesome for whoever wins, but man, as a program, this is not good.

For some reason, it wouldn’t seem as bad if they were raffling some Amazon gift cards or free Papa John’s pizza (which is as much as you should ever pay for one of those).

Offering the chance to win free tuition — thousands of dollars — to sit through a college football game is rough.

Still, I am sure this will work wonders. Ask anyone who’s paying off their student loans. Forget staying until the game ends; I’d chain myself to the stadium for a free semester (still open to this, by the way).
